Former Troy University pitcher/third baseman Chase Whitley has gotten off to a great start in his career as a professional baseball player.
The native of Ranburne, Ala., was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 15th round of the June Amateur Draft and was assigned to the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League.
So far, so good for Whitley. In five appearances for the "Baby Bombers" Whitley has posted a 1-0 record and has four saves. In 6.2 innings of work, Whitley has allowed just one hit, has not walked anyone, and has nine strikeouts.
For his efforts, Whitley was named the New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week for the opening week of the short-season rookie league.
